Onyeka Onwenu has announced that her best selling memoir “My Father’s Daughter” which was published in 2020 shall be made into a TV series featuring some of Nollywood’s finest actors.
The singer, actress and human rights activist whose career spans over three decades made the announcement in Lagos at a special occasion in Four Points Sheraton on January 28th 2022. The event was attended by several dignitaries including Betty Mbadiwe Ijeoma and Prof. Bankole Shodipo.
While commenting on the nature of the TV Series, Onwenu said: “We have not decided if it would be in six or eight parts, but I can confirm it would not be just one. What we are doing here is to tell the story of Nigeria, and the story of the film and music industry. It is our time to tell our stories ourselves.”
My Father’s Daughter tells the story of Onyeka Onwenu and her journey through several endeavours like singing, acting, politics and her human rights advocacy. It speaks on how her success in numerous spheres was enveloped by the knowledge of her father’s love and support for her as a woman.
According to reports by Nigerian news outlets like YNaija, the series shall be directed by Izu Ojukwu who is known for previous award winning movies like “76” and “Amina”. Chichi Nworah was also reported to be the slated producer for the movie. She has previously produced movies like “Shanty Town” and “Omoge Suzzy”.
Speaking on the nature of the movie and book, Ngozi Osu who served as the editor of the memoir said: “I look forward to the book being made into a TV series. The book talks a lot about women. Onyeka reveres, promotes, respects, mentors, and motivates a lot of young girls.
