At the University of Lagos, an abstract painter juggles getting a law degree with her art. This artist believes that consistency in both will take her to where she wants to be, thus progress beats perfection – This is the story of Tani Idowu
Tani Idowu believes there is no one way to express oneself with art, hence why her style is unique.
Tani started working with colours professionally in 2020. Her fascination with nature is evident in most of her works.
While her works show some level of interest in nature, the young artist portrays the thoughts of other women using herself as a paradigm.
Transitioning
Tani’s paintings tell different stories of the different stages of her life and how she transitions from them. One of such is a piece titled ‘Korero’, using her creative liberty, the painting illustrates how the artist ‘grows from a place of uncertainty to finding courage in herself.’
The artist uses a range of materials such as acrylic paint, clay, paint pens, fine sand, sawdust, and gold leaf, all on canvas.
She mixes clay with alcohol to loosen it up and adds water for moisture while using the palette knife painting technique to achieve the textures in her pieces.
The young artist works are majorly landscape and abstract pieces which afford her the luxury of processing and presenting her thoughts which are relatable to the audience she garners to her art.
